The Long Island Federation of Labor is now recruiting representatives from affliated local unions to attend the 2016 Local Union Leadership Training Program. Over the past eight years, we have provided new skills and information to the next generation of leaders in our labor movement.

The classes will bring in speakers who will lead discussions about the major challenges our labor movement will be facing in the coming year. Classes will focus on representation skills as well as policy issues. Participants will learn better techniques for grievance handling, arbitration and bargaining and gain some practical experience in speaking out about the legislative proposals which will shape our future.

One of the highlights of our learning experience has been the class trips to Washington, D.C. and Albany. This year we will be going to Albany for briefings from statewide union leaders on legislation and the state economy as well as actual lobbying at the State Capitol.

As in the past, the course will be offered at no cost to our affiliates. Classes will be held once a month at the Long Island Federation of Labor offices. In order to sign up a member or members from your local union, please fill out the attached registration form and fax or send it back to the Long Island Fed office.

We look forward to your participation.

One of the most active programs BOTG-NY has is our care package program.  We regularly acquire the names of deployed military members who are furthest from the available resources.  As PXs and other supply lines close, more and more of our men and women are having trouble finding the basic necessities.  BOTG-NY collects toiletries, snacks, and other supplies for which we receive requests directly from the front lines,  packs the items along with notes of thanks and support, and mails them to the individuals serving in harm’s way.  For $15, you can sponsor the shipping for one of our care packages.  This small investment provides a value beyond measure to the recipient.   Won’t you help?

If you would like to include a brief note of support in your care package, please use the “Order Notes” section upon check out.  Thank you!

Missing any money?
Check to see if you are owed unclaimed funds

There’s nothing like found money, and the state comptroller may be able to help
you find some you didn’t know you had. New York state has $12 billion in lost money,
according to state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. On average,
DiNapoli’s office returns $1 million a day.

Visit the state Comptroller’s Office of Unclaimed Funds website
or call 1-800-221-9311 (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
to see if some of that money is yours.
